Hi,
I
never really liked to preorder from companies that I did not know or
trust, but when I saw online that the price was going to increase I just
had to get it.
It arrived a day before my flight,
luckily. My first impressions were that this suitcase both looks and
feels amazing, with its features, and design.
Now
on the side of connectivity this suitcase is said to offer it all, but
unfortunately the app seems like it is still in a beta mode, because of
its lack of consistency when using this features. Now despite I still
fully recommend getting this suitcase boasts the key feature, locking
and unlocking always works, and I have been in contact with Bluesmart
and they have been very helpful, and reasured that with future updates
there will be performance upgrades, bugs will be ironed out, and new
features will be added. My thoughts are that because it is such a small
team working on the suitcase, ~10, the updates will come out steadily,
and will only improve the whole user experience.
Now
I have seen countless people whining about the size of the suitcase,
and it's configuration, if you pack it right you can get enough for a
couple of weeks use. You have to be smart, you put your electronics in
the front along with chargers, and travel documents, on the inside
pocket you can fit a couple of shirts, and a few t-shirts', now inside
of the main compartment you have ample space for some shorts, trousers,
and any other holiday making equipment, but admittedly bringing a spare
pair of shoes will eat up a significant amount of space.
In
terms of using this in a real world environment I will tell you my
experience of using it to travel to the small island of Koh Samui in
Thailand. Just before I left I decided to leave to get on the taxi I
checked my weight, on the app, of the suitcase, and noticed that I was
3KG over weight. Realizing this might have just saved me a huge
surcharge from the airline. I got the taxi to Heathrow, checked in my
luggage to go into the hold. And took my BlueSmart to security, I
whipped out my iPad, and Mac quickly, and went through security
seamlessly, chuckling at the regular travelers unzipping there
suitcases, and repacking them to get there electronics back in place. I
proceeded to get lunch, but soon noticed that my mobile was running low
on juice, bam! I got my charger out of my bag, plugged it into my
suitcase and there I was charging my mobile from my bag. I soon
discovered that my wireless hard drive was low on battery, and them I
just plugged it into the internal USB charging point, not even requiring
me to take it out of my bag. Got on the plane, bag fitted, all went
well. Landed At Bangkok airport, went to the transfer desk, further
charged my mobile, and iPad, and I thought to myself that it must have a
huge battery, and worried that it may run out making it impossible to
unlock it without the key, but I kept my key in my pocket just in case. I
got onto the second plane, and suddenly it hit me the baggage
restriction for that plane was only 4KG, and the bag itself is about
3KG, but luckily the staff did not care and let me take it on.
I
later found out that the battery charging for USB devises cuts off well
before the actual battery runs out, meaning you can still connect to
it, and lock/unlock it. Also I found that the case itself being ~3KG is a
bit annoying because you have to be careful what you pack.
This
suit case seems to be really nicely built, with its strong poly
carbonate body, and neat design. Many have faulted BlueSmart for not
using a YKK zip, but personally I feel that it does not matter because
it feels really sturdy, and you have to bare in mind that there is more
than one supply ear for zips than just YKK, and I feel that BlueSmart
made a wise decision.
Unfortunately legally you are
not allowed to put this bag in the hold because it contains a LiPo
battery which are prohibited, this is a massive pain, but I highly doubt
that you would get caught, or punished if you do decide to check it in.
Overall
this is a great suitcase, and I have full confidence that it will
improve over time with software improvements. I recommend everyone to
get one of these, they are really great, and you will not regret it.
I
have had a chat to the lovely people at BlueSmart, and I have secured a
deal which will offer you a $20 discount on your BlueSmart. Don't be
put off by the $, they ship to all of Europe without having to pay
import tax, and offer you to pay using your own currency.
