How I Make My Coffee, with equipment list!

I have to confess that I rely on coffee for my day to day life, and because I have so much of it I believe that it is vital to make the best brew possible.

My personal favourite, and easiest way of making coffee is drip coffee, now I hear some die hard coffee fans shouting, and having nervous breakdowns, but the truth is that it is both cheaper, easyer, and gives less margin for error when making coffee.

I will briefly go over the equipment that I use to make my daily brew.

First off is the Smarter Coffee Machine, I wont go too into detail, but it features its own intrigrated bean grinder, and can work a bit like the wireless printers that connect to your WiFi network, and you can just make a brew from your smartphone (even a app to make coffee!). This is what they have on there website to promote its key features:

"

  • Control the Smarter Coffee machine from anywhere in the home via WiFi, with the free App
  • Schedule alarms so you can wake up to the smell of freshly brewed Coffee
  • Smarter Coffee welcomes you home, with a freshly brewed Coffee, for that instant pick me up
  • Adjust the strength and amount of cups of Coffee you want, directly from the free App
  • See exactly how much water is in the tank on the App and receive reminders when the water is low
  • Choose your color, all three removable panels Black, Red and Beige included in the box    "
I have attached a Amazon link (below) with the product so you can take a look for yourself.

I also use a Bodum manual milk frother. Most people would look down upon this decision, as it is not a fancy steam driven one, but the process to make the foam is simple as outlined below, in my "how I make coffee"page.
As you can see it is relatively low price, and is also very easy to clean.

For my caramel syrup I use Monin, this is the same stuff you get in the coffee shops, and this is because it is relativly cheap, and tastes great.

Now arguably the most important ingredient to coffee, well coffee! Now this is up to debate, and I don't always use the same beans, but so far my favorite coffee so far is by Paddy &Scotts. Now this is not the cheapest coffee, but remember that this is a whole KG, and will last you around 2-4 months, meaning that you will need a sealed pot to keep it in. Don't fall fool to the packaging, it is rather plain, but the flavor is far from.

Now this is purely up to personal preference, but I always use coco nibs, and the reason that I get the nibs instead of beans is that it is both hard to find, and they are not usually roasted. Coco nibs are perfect for mixing in with your non ground bean mixture. The coco beans give for a subtle hint of coco, it is rather bitter, and may require a slight amount of sweeteners.

So in order this is how I make my coffee,
I first prepare the coffee machine by inserting a coffee filter into the pre installed filter. I then whip out a pint of milk (bare in mind that I usually make coffee for around 3 people). pour up to the indicated line on the milk frother, and then pour the rest into a large glass measuring jug. I set the heat on the microwave for 900 watts, and for 7 mins.

As soon as it has started to heat I open up my app and set the number of coffees that I want to make, times 2, and add 2, why? This is because roughly 2 cups get saturated within the grounds, and a cup is half a medium Starbucks coffee mug.

This is when the timing has to be perfect, I get the mugs ready, add a shot of caramel syrup (std shot size), and then wait until the milk is ready.

Once the microwave goes beep the rush is on, I must first put on the strainer style top onto the milk frothing vessel, and then rapidly froth the milk until it has just over doubled. A trick I learned, is that it is wise to finish the last thrust with the strainer part of the milk throttler up and not to let it stay in the milk, this is because when you remove the strainer from the vessel, after a prolonged period, it will take the froth out of the milk,  and require you to restart the whole process. Once you have your froth wait a minute to let it set, hold your hand over the top, and hit it hard onto a solid surface, like wood, but not marble or glass because that may damage the device, the hitting of the jug, will make any of the remaining air bubbles rise to the top, and will result in a solid foam.

I then pour about 2/3 coffee into the cup, add a splash of milk, give it a quick stir, and Finnish it off by spooning some milky froth on top, and there is a perfect coffee made.

Please do bare in mind that this is only a guide, and is not the only way out there to make coffee.
